The Science
First approved by the FDA for treatment in 2002, anti-wrinkle injections consist of Botulinum toxin A, a neuromodulator that is used to help soften or smooth fine lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements, or facial expressions. These lines and wrinkles occur over time as we age.
Neuromodulator (‘Tox’) treatments work by relaxing the muscles that contract and cause wrinkles in the skin. By reducing muscle movement and the forming of wrinkles, this smooths the skin in the treatment area. Treatment can be used as both a wrinkle treatment for visible lines, AND for wrinkle prevention. Current FDA approved neuromodulators include: Botox, Xeomin and Dysport.
The Aesthetics
Neuromodulator injections relax the muscles on areas of the face that causes wrinkles associated with facial expressions, and smooths the skin. The effects last for 2-4 months.
